It is one of the representative Korean folk play, consisting of ravishing fireworks in harmony with traditional boating, which gives us refinement and great impression. Having the fine scenery of Buyongdae at Hahoe village, as a green beautiful frame of the feast, with long rope hung on the precipice(Buyongdae) having great number of blazes hung on it, which are called 'Julbul'(the fire on rope). And the infinite beautiful sparks falling from the blazes make the Milky Way of the night sky. During lots of fireballs dropping from the precipice, 'Dalgyalbul'(the fire in egg-shaped bowl) is floating on the river. During the great fireworks, some Korean classical music are performed.
You can enjoy the scene of beautiful mountain and river, and have unforgetable memory of the night, inhaling fresh air, smelling pine trees, singing, and enjoying foods and drinks.
   

 
It is one of the typical male collective play (Daedongnori) and deserves to get attention as the best play among the Korean traditional plays.
Two huge groups fight each other carrying long Dongch'e (which is a kind of ladder made of wood) in the vast field of the festival.
You can greatly enjoy the splendid, magnificent and dynamic scene of the play and the interesting legend behind it which has deep relation to the history of Andong. Besides, it was invited to perform in the Expo of Hanover in Germany being the best Korean folk play.

 
If you wish to see Korean theater, you are invited to attend the puppet play. The puppet is a sort of mask, and the puppet play gives us more fantastic enjoyment and various inspirations than general theaters.
On the other hand, there are different kinds of foreign traditional puppet plays from Japan, U.S.A and so on. It will provide us good occasion to enjoy and compare the features of various puppet plays.
The puppet play will be held on everyday. The pleasure is twice, if you attend the play with your family.

 
A mask is one of the best traditional heritage of Korean culture.
Carving a mask allows us to find the traditional features of our Korean ancestors. And we can understand the art of printing and it's dimensions throughout rubbing various engravings.

 
It offers you great chance to taste several kinds of Korean food and specially Andong food, such as Jonggaumsik (the food of head family), Sijulsik (the seasonal food), Sikye(fermented rice punch), and Andong Hanwo(the beef of Andong area). On the other hand, a vast variety of foreign foods are introduced by 'the department of food and nutrition' from different universities. Guides wil help you to understand not only the taste of the food, but also the cultural basis of it.
 
It is one of the typical Korean female collective play (Daedongnori) containing the legend and history of Andong.
You can enjoy the female elegances along with the excitements of collective dance, and have the chance to play together with the performers and all participants.
Similar to Ch'ajonnori (the one of the typical male collective play), 'Notdaribapgi' is considered as one of the best play of Andong.

 
It gives us good opportunity to make harmony with the handicapped and sympathize each other. We would like to talk the hand language in this feast to make the handicapped introduce and enjoy the Andong culture.
Various performances will be held by the handicapped, such as Hahoe mask dance, puppet play, and singing together.
In the Pungmulnori(the play of Korean folk percussion instruments) we will dance and play together with open mind and realize that we are one.

Andong has preserved well the Confucian traditions among the world.
The Dosanbyolsi clearly reveals the Confucian traditions of Andong.
Actually, it was originated from the performance to compose poetry held by the Dosansuwon in order to praise the learning and virtue of Toegye.
Now a days, around three-hundred Confucian scholars gathered from all over the country attending the Dosanbyolsi to take pride in their poetries and compete with other scholars.
They reappear the traditional composition of verse according to the theme and rhyme. It is definitely unique chance to see real competition of composing poetries. You can enjoy the best flavor of Confucian tradition only in Andong.

Songhwanggje

This is traditional shamanic ritual in Korea. Generally, Korean mudang(shaman and shamaness) are divided into two groups, 'Sesupmu'(inherited shaman and shamaness) and 'Kangshinmu'(possessed shaman and shamaness).
The mudang of Andong belongs to the second group i.e. possessed shaman. During the first day, the performance of shamanic ritual will be held in the site of Andongbu, and after that it will be performed in the place of the festival. It shows not only the features of Korean shamanic ritual, but also collective arts of Korean traditional culture, such as dance, myth, costume, singing, food and so on.

Handusilhaengsang
sori

'Handusilhaengsangsori' means 'Sangyomaeginunsori' (a kind of song for funeral and pallbearers' dirge) which was performed long time ago, for the case when somebody has a death in his/her family in Daedusori (commonly called Handusil), Sohunyon, Andongsi. It is comprised of long verses of prayer for the purpose of blissing the dead person and wishing happiness for the living persons and eternal life. It consists of three main parts i.e. 'Daedodum', 'Sangyosori' and 'Dolgujil'. First is 'Daedodum', which contains the processes of decoration of a funeral bier and rehearsal of pallbearers' dirge. Second is 'Sangyosori', which is pallbearers' dirge sung during moving the bier to burial ground. Third is 'Dolgujil', which is performed in the burial ground during building a mound over a grave.

Lotus Lantern Ceremony

A lotus lantern represents the lotus blossom which had significant religious and symbolic meaning. Specially, the Buddhists have esteemed the lotus and gave important meaning to it, because it gorgeously flourishes even in the foul environment, also it has empty space in the inside of stem, and its flower has really graceful shape and fragrance.
Ju don-yee, who was the outstanding confucian scholar in China, considered the lotus blossom as the best among all flowers, and the Korean great scholar, Pak Ji-won, also considered it as the best.
The lotus lantern festival is the ceremony of Buddhists, where they make the lotus lanterns with colorful paper petal and put candle inside it. where after, the lanterns are going to float on the river in the midnight with sincere prayer for good fortune.
JoJonnongyo The cultivating rice crop in traditional society was consisted of three main processes, i.e. transplantation, weeding and harvesting. These procedures required cooperative and collective work of the village people. The JoJonnongyo (the farmer's song in Jojon village) is used to be sung when they work together in the field, and it contains different kinds of songs, such as the song for transplantation, weeding rice field, going to field and coming to village. These songs provide us full flavor of the farmer's rhythms and melodies.
