Hahoe Pyolsingut

The Pyolsingut has originated from interesting legend. According to the legend, long time ago when Hodoryong was making masks according to the god's orders, one girl, who belongs to Kim family and loves Hodoryong so much, watched upon the sly him and his masks offending against taboo of god. After that, she met sudden death and became Sonangsin (tutelary god) of Hahoe village.
The Hahoe Pyolsingut is not only shamanic ritual for Sonangsin, but also village festival where we can enjoy mask play and dance all together. When Majesty queen Elizabeth visited Hahoe, the people noticed that she was so excited and could hardly control the motion of her legs hearing the tune and melody of the festival.

According to the people in that village, if you die without attending this festival, the Yomradaewang (the god of hell) will let you back to the world to see the festival.

Jangsung exhibition

The face of Jangsung (village totem) shows the real Korean face. Even though it looks forbidding in the first time, you can feel intimacy soon.
This exhibition makes you understand the image of tradition in Hahoe and mind of Korean people.

Traditional Cultural Event in the Old House

Hahoe village is well known as the best folk village where we can notice the Korean life style and traditional culture.
We would like this interesting event to be held in the front yard of old houses in Hahoe which will help to show well the refine flavor of Korean architecture.
